WE HAVE A DATE!

As you may have guessed from this blog title, baby was still breech at our appointment with the specialist yesterday. In fact, not only is he upside down but he's back to front and on an angle too! Why do I have a feeling my son is going to be a handful just like his father was? Haha. So . . . we were given a date for our elective c-section BUT I'm afraid we are keeping it a secret. I know that is annoying (sorry!) but we really want to keep some surprises in store for people since we already know what the sex is. But I can tell you that he will be born in JUNE. That's right, we are having our baby THIS MONTH! So exciting!

We were once again spoken to about the turning procedure and given the ins and outs of it all, but it sounded even worse coming from the specialist than it did from the midwife, so once again we turned that idea down. Turns out that given bubs position, the fact my placenta is at the front and also that my fluid levels are on the lower side of normal (something I didn't know until that appointment) the specialist said he didn't think we would have much success with that anyway. He also said he doesn't think baby will turn on his own, but you never know! I must admit though, I think I would be pretty gutted to turn up to the hospital on the day of our scheduled c-section and find that he had turned and be sent home again! How gutting would that be, going in expecting to meet your baby at last and then being sent home to wait it out!

I'm feeling ok about the idea of a c-section now as I have got used to the idea and have done some research on how we can still make it an excellent birth experience. It's obviously not my ideal outcome but at the end of the day, getting him here safe and sound is the first priority.

Any tips from those who have been there and done that would be very much appreciated though!

  1. Having a date (this month!) must be so exciting, and I totally agree that keeping it to yourselves is a fabulous idea, we have friends doing the same thing for the same reasons :) Sounds like your little monkey is very happy where he is, so what will be will be! Countdown is on, can't wait to read your news.

  2. Ive had alot of friends give birth via Ceasar, and at the end of the day the bub knows know different. And you can plan ahead and your HooHaa wont get damaged!! I think there is just some recovery time for you, so hubby will be having some father/son bonding time. Have they mentioned anything about clicky hips with breech? My friend just had a bub via C due to her being breech, but she was 100% perfect, hips fine. And yes, I think this is an indicator that he will be a handful!

  3. I had a breech baby, but didn't find out until I was at the hospital! Having a csection is definitely a different experience, but my hospital did an excellent job of making it just as special as a vaginal birth. Get skin to skin contact right after and do your best to try and breastfeed (if you are going to do that) in recovery. Have your DH go to the warmer after the baby is out and begin care for him...it will help them bond early on :). And all in all, just expect the unexpected! Having a csection is hard, but well worth it for a healthy baby!!

  4. So exciting that a date is set!! I have been following your blog forever and I just can't wait to see the lil guy. I have a feeling my little on is going to breach too..not sure why just a gut feeling she is transverse and doesn't feel like moving, will find out at our 28 week scan next week. Anyways, again I am sooooooo very excited for you and thank you for all the hope and inspiration you have provided during this journey.

  5. Oh I like surprises! :) C-section..I have no idea the cons and pros. I am sure whatever the doctors think are best and safe is the best decision for you.

  6. I had a C Section with my son last year and found it absolutely fine, just longer recovery time and the no lifting/no driving made things a bit harder. My piece of random advice is to invest in some high waisted underwear - they aren't pretty, but they are comfy. I bought a 5 or 6 pack (can't recall which) of black undies from the warehouse and they were the best thing ever, didn't rub on my wound and held the pads in place. Good luck and enjoy. My thinking is that it doesn't matter how bubs comes out, just that he is A-OK

  7. It's so exciting! I can't wait to see pics of baby boy! It sounds like you're making the right decision for both of you. I haven't heard much good about the turning procedure.
