TRYING TO FIND A PLACE IN THE BLOGGING WORLD

This blog started out as an infertility blog and inevitably as I got pregnant it became a pregnancy blog and now that I have my son, it is more of a parenting blog. But I feel like I am a bit lost when it comes to writing here these days, so I write less and less and struggle to find topics to write about that aren't drivel, especially knowing who my original audience are. I feel lost in the blogging world and I'm not sure whether to continue on with this blog or to put it to bed. I know the more you write, the more people will follow. Do I just do a monthly update of where life is at? Do I just write when it tickles my fancy (even if they are weeks apart)? Or do I just put it to bed? Thoughts?

  1. If u still want to blog, maybe start a new one. That way people can follow if they want. I think this has been a really great way to document ur journey, but now life is very different with different journeys.

  2. I felt the same way. I changed the name and look of my blog but I just continue to write for myself which is what I've always done. When I got pregnant I explained to my fellow IF readers that I knew and understood it would be hard for them to continue reading about my journey. I told them that I had to write about it though, because it is my outlet...some of them stopped commenting and that's ok. I don't want to hurt them, but at the same time I can't pretend that I'm not a mother now. It's complicated but as I said, my blog is for me above all else.

  3. I feel a bit the same. My plan is to finish my blog after bub comes and may or may not start a new one. My new one will be a place to document bubs and my journey. Then ppl can join or not.

  4. I think there's a place for a 'life after infertility' blog. I have a 6mth old boy after 3 rounds of unsuccessful IVF and sometimes I still feel different to the other mummies. And I want to move on from the years of life that were just about infertility and actually get a fuller more enjoyable life with my new lovely little family (while still adjusting to the fact that I'm not like the other mummies who are discussing when they will have their 2nd baby etc). When I search for 'life after infertility' I often just find blogs & info about coping if IVF didn't work but I want to read about how people manage with their new life when IVF is successful. Does that make any sense??!

  5. Maybe start fresh. New blog, fresh colours, new topics. Being a working mum is hard work, so you may still need an outlet like blogging. You will attract new bloggers and the faithfuls will read no matter what you do. Leave infertility behind where it belongs.

  6. I think we all aspire to be pregnant so to me I have never had an issue following bloggers that became pregnant after IF. If I had a down day I didn't read, if I didn't like what the wrote about I stopped following. It's up to you but it is your blog do what you want. I think that people would want to know how you got here and the back story. If you don't want to blog anymore just stop. It is up to you H.

  7. I just wanted to say that I just blog for me, sometimes its regularly, then I don't for a while and discover that it has been months since I posted. I think it all comes down to how you feel about blogging and whether you can be 'bothered' anymore or not.

I agree with Jenny's comment, while you don't set out to hurt anyone, if IF readers can't handle you blogging as a mother then it is their choice to leave. Life is all about changes and we can not pretend to be what we are not just so people don't get hurt. I have infertility and never, ever begrudge people with children from blogging about them. Sure, I'm jealous, but life goes on and I would hate to think that someone doesn't get to share the full enjoyment of their child just because they didn't want to upset others.

Oooops, sorry, rambled on a bit there!

  8. Blog because you want to, feel to and have something to say. I started my blog after my son, although it has snippets of IF and some of my followers have come from IF. People choose to read about my mothering, recipes or rambles of my fat arse. I think your blog is a great avenue for IF people to find and link from - you put a lot of hard work into it. Fresh new look and new topics will be great as long as the history and info is still intact. You will find a new audience too.

  9. I think that your writing has been really helpful to lots of people but as someone already mentioned your journey is different now. I vote new blog new name new adventures of life after infertility. But make sure you invite everyone to the new blog!! The blog will be for a different audience but they may need you as much as this group did :)
