DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY . . .

I'm trying to live by this motto at the moment and was proving to be doing a very good job but . . . there always has to be a but! Since I hit the 25 week mark I've been feeling very relaxed and really enjoying my pregnancy but now at 29 weeks baby has decided to change position and I can't feel him as much as I used to, which is causing the dreaded worry to start biting me in the butt again. He had been super active the last few weeks and I was getting so used to the kicks and jabs and being able to rest my hand on my belly and feel him squirming around underneath. Then on Sunday night I had a few painful braxton hicks and sharp pains radiating down around my pubic bone and suddenly the only movements I have felt have been teeny tiny little movements down really, really low. And the movements are very faint. But boy has my bladder been irritated since then! Sometimes I literally feel like I am leaking when I get a couple of prods on the bladder and think maybe I should have been doing more regular pelvic exercises! Oops, maybe this was the reason they tell you to do these things! I've also been getting some mild cramping and continuous backache which came out of nowhere. Perhaps he has engaged himself already. Hope he isn't preparing an early entrance as I have so much left to do! Eek!

Please tell me it's normal for a babies movements to settle down a bit at this stage so I can stop worrying!

  1. I think it's NORMAL! I'm 33 weeks and the past few weeks the baby's movements have been duller and lower...I think it's a combination of them running out of room and moving lower. I'd mention it to the MW, but I wouldn't worry!

  2. Hey Haidee,
just wanted to say Noah engaged at 27 wks and I had a bleed, they thought he was trying to come early but he didn't end up arriving til 39+6!!
It sounds like he has gone head down and maybe turned posterior which would cause the backpain so try not to worry too much, if he is kicking in towards your back then you wouldn't feel as much as if he was kicking out front you know?
As long as you can feel him, that is the main thing!

  3. You are doing so well. It's ok to be worried. He is just growing bigger with less room to flip and kick. Sounds like he has or is about to engage. Bidhi did at 32 and didn't come out till 41. You are going to grow a whole lot bigger yet. Being preg for the first time is absolutely amazing! I'm so glad we get to read and see how you progress.

  4. It's all good. Like the others have said - less room to do gymnastics. Your backpain will be a result of bub and the weight you are carrying. Try to sit or lay down often. Mine got really troublesome and C kicked me in the ribs which dislocated. I ended up in pysio with a special tape around my body. Unfortunately you've hit the really uncomfortable stage of PG.

  5. I have no idea about the movement, but my best guess is that he scrunched up in there now that he is bigger.

Oh...just noticed that this is what others have said.

Maybe he's getting ready to pounce?

  7. I definitely have noticed a bit of a drop in what I'm feeling. Just this morning I found myself pushing around on my belly, telling the LO that she had mommy's permission to give a kick or two. Luckily she obliged. :) I guess she (and your he) really must be running out of space...

  8. Thanks for the insight ladies! I still feel him move but just not as frequently or as strongly. Had a coffee this morning (first real one in months!) and now feel slightly drunk like and hyped up . . . I wonder how he's feeling! Oops!

  9. It all sounds normal but for piece of mind always double check with your midwife. Sounds like he has engaged so now you will get those scratchy pains that feel like he is digging his way out. If you want him to move a fanta or sprite is always good for instant results. Take care you are doing great.

  10. I saw my midwife the other day (at 22 weeks) and she said that at around 30 weeks movements would change from distinct kicks to more rolling and less distinct movements, and not to worry if there weren't as many of them. She said that when doing a kick count, to count each roll as 5 kicks (although that's not till much later on). She also said that if you want baby to move, have an ice cold drink, follow it up with something sweet like honey on toast and make sure to then lie down on the couch for 20 minutes and wait for movement. Hope that helps!
